I have a maple tree (I think) in need of some help. I am getting alot of dead sections in it. It seems like there is a dead spot in the middle of every main limb. There is also alot of black charred substance in certain areas. What is the best thing to do for this? It still produces leaves and everything, the only thing I notice is in the winter I get ALOT of small fallen sticks. Some people say cut it down, others say cut the dead out, others say use tree paint, other say try nutrients?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I tried to attach pics of the tree.
The tree does not look too bad overall. The pictures show what happens when cross over branches are not pruned off, amazing! My advice is to immediately prune all the branches that are damaged by another branch, those that cross over and all those that are dead. In both cases prune to a healthy branching point. Do not put anything on top of the cut. Gomero
Gomero thanks for the advice, here are a few more pictures to show the extent of the dead spots. How do you cut out the dead spots in the main trunk areas? Thanks in advance!
I do not know ;o)). I know how to cut branches, not dead spots!!! Spring is approaching fast where you live and you would better prune the branches as advised above ASAP. Then at the end of the summer you check and see if additional branches need to be cut, at that time you can go hard on big branches. Gomero
