Dying koi and dogwoods

    i have a water garden in my backyard and i have koi in it,for some reason all my fish are dying after we had a hard rain,i heard that since it is under a dogwood tree ,the tree is poisonous to fish,is this true? thank you,p.s. i test the pond constantly.

    Speak to a koi dealer who would (should) know about that. All plants are a bit to a lot toxic to various species, so it's hard to make that specific call though I'm sure many will have heard lots of stories over the years. Have you not tried or done anything about the fish?

    Daniel, try trimming the tree overlapping the pond...the leaves are probably building up dangerously high N+ levels as decay in the pond. Just a thought... Deb

    also...try cycling your water during drop.....try every week for 1/4 total water volume. I just add the hose through a mister, diffuses chlorine and allow for an overflow....if you do this especially during the summer your plants/fish will thank you. Deb :)
