Dying apricot tree near kiwi vines

The following question was received via email:

i have two apricot trees one only four foot with a stem about two inches wide the branches that died were cut away.

the other fifteen foot tall and a kiwi grew all over it. i cut the kiwi away from the tree and now the tree is only barely alive . only a few branches have live leaves.

and more information, after I asked for some follow-up:

i plantred them a number of years back and in fact i have one tree a peach that gets loaded with fruit and then it all falls off before maturing. then i have this kiwi that grew all over my apricot tree and practically killed it i cut down the vines off the tree and the tree still survives it has leaves at extremities. it looks like it will make a comeback. i live on long island Bethpage and we have the same growing time zone as virginia but only a small part of the new york area as we are near the ocean i suppose and that warms us a bit. unfortunately i am not having any luck with anything as fi bought three nanking chrery bushes and it has only once or twice given off a very few cherries. then i have a prolific pear tree i bought years ago and i really wanted a barlett pear but the ad said a New Orient Pear and they are delicious. well i went for the ad and it had a billion large pears but they did not have the taste like Barlett so i really never used them all i did was clean up after the tree ... I planted these trees in no particular place as i did not care as i was takingthem down to my faqrm in Appomattox virginia and replanting them well now i have a mess as they got big and i never took them down and they are too big to transfer. I also have something very interesting in front of house a CHINESE DATE TREE I have two now another came up next to it. one thing I noticed it draws many bees and hornets. but noone was stung by them as they are too interested in the flowers that are so small they look like nothing yet they have a tremendous attraction for these insects. well that is my story about these plantings. bud
