Hi everyone, It's been awhile since I've done much with online plant related things. It's nice to see some familiar names still here giving advice! I have a sister who is asking about a dwarf white pine that has some odd looking branches on it. I've not spent too much time to diagnose, just don't have a lot time these days. I thought I'd take the lazy way out and see if anyone here could ID what's happening with the plants from pictures. These are 15 +/- year old plants in a foundation planting. Nearby C. obtusa cvs. seem to have no problems. Basically, there are some isolated yellowing and stunted branches on the plants. Here are some pics: Thanks for any help! Ernie
It's hard to say exactly, without actually poking around by myself. I suspect possible root damage, but don't see any recent soil disturbances from these pictures. Hold a white card under a yellow branch and tap the branch. See if any spider mites drop onto the card. The only other thing I can think of without actually being there is: what's your soil pH?
Hi David - I'll check for mites when I get a chance. One of the branches is stunted pretty badly, apparently for the last couple of years, which makes root damage a possibility. I don't know the pH but it is likely slightly on the high side because that is typical for central IL. I'll check what I can and go from here. Thanks!
