I live in central GA & have a young dj-red maple. It is in a spot with full sunlight - we water it daily & it is doing very well - full of red foliage & young green leaves in the interior, as well. The problem - it has several leaves with circular tan spots on them - - only on the red leaves & only on about a dozen of them scattered around the plant. What could this be? What do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Re: Dwarf Japanese Red Maple Problem...

In this case a picture would be helpful Marietta. Sometimes water droplets on the foliage can act as a magnifying glass that can burn a little patch in the leaf. Some fungi can cause similar spots, but they are rarely of major concern.

On a side note I would be careful not to over water your new tree. If you have clay soil your tree could develop root rot if drainage is not excellent when watering that much. A thorough watering every two or three days for the first few weeks would be preferred. You should then try to back down to a good weekly (or twice a week if in hot sun) watering for the summer.
