    Hello All,
I have an issue with a very important tree in my back yard. Its a dwarf blue spruce and the needles are dying back from the bottom and inside. It also has some black stuff on some of the nodes. i only saw one bagworm on the the tree and i looked at the needles under a microscope and there is not black fruiting bodies on the stomatas. any ideas?
    Thanks a lot,
    ~Kyle~

It's got sucking pests like spruce aphids. The black stuff is called sooty mold, it grows on their poop.

the sooty mold grows on the honeydew (exudate), not the frass (excrement). :P
