Dumb about planting

    I am new at planting squash etc, when planting is a hill a round depression with a mound of dirt in center? I know this is a stupid question but-------

    Well the method I was taught was a nice mound of composty soil. Make a well in the middle then plant 3 to 4 seeds on the crater in side and they will cimb over. Meanwhile they have protection and you can water in the shallow well. The heap used to be about 2 foot by 2 ft, The other method was a long raised bed with the seeds in shallow hollows inthe top at intervals. I use these methods for pumpkins and cucmbers as well. as the fruit developes I place a straw or wood shaving pillow under it. The plants don't like water logged hence raised beds.

    It does rain a lot here 30 inches so far this year so I will be carefull!
