re: Iris germanica, Iris florentina, and Iris pallida I was once asked how to dry orris root - an ingredient in perfumes. I suggested grating to dry. Having just checked Wikipedia which states that the roots are hung and dried for 5 years. Would grating the root to speed drying destroy the fixative properties desired for perfumery?
