I'm looking for a drought tolerant fruit tree for a well drained, full sun area. I know it almost sounds like an oxymoron but I read that Diospyros kaki 'Fuyu' is a good candidate that fits this description. Have any one had any experience with persimmon tree in Vancouver?

My garden club recently had a speaker - Peter Janes - owner of Tree Eater Nursery on Denman Island. (treeeaternursery.com) He grows many unusual fruit trees including several persimmons and is very knowledgeable. I am sure he could give you advice about a suitable tree for your situation. He ships to locations on the mainland.
