Hello all, i've done my usual trick of trying to look up a specific bit of information on the Net and have managed to confuse myself. All i wanted to do is create a new plant from my Draceana marginata ( i was thinking of dividing it) but now i've found out about air layering and cutting the cane. Can anyone tell me how the end result differs for these two techniques and whether a draceana be easily divided at the root and ultimately, which would be the best way to make a new plant?

I would try air layering. I've never done it, but it seems to be safer and a sure thing. Be sure to look up how to air layer a "monocot" not a "dicot". Sould be simply but it takes a while.

The difference in the end result is nothing... you have 2 plants instead of one. But with layering when you cut the top off it is already a complete plant. Your just doing the rooting on the plant rather than in an other pot. Greater chance of success.
