hi,to grow a new one can you just cut the top off an existing pant and put it in some potting mix, wait for it to grow some roots??also will the part you cut (from original plant)come back and grow new shoots?
Someone who's done it will provide details (I suspect rooting powder from the garden center will help), but yes, the dracaenas grown as house plants are grown from cuttings. http://mrec.ifas.ufl.edu/Foliage/folnotes/dracaena.htm
Yes greasers no problems there. Good to see another Aussie out there. I usually cut the bottom at an angle, so you can tell which way is down, and go from there. You can use rooting powder, but I have had the same effect with honey, vegemite and even nothing at all, depending on the species/hybrid!! Good luck mate... Ed
Greaser, Ed is right. Just cut the top off. The angle cut to show bottom is good. Watch the cut part of the plant you just topped. Many of the Dracaenias will sprout more "tops" from the cut area of the old plant. Marginata does this, not sure on Corn or Tri-color. Be careful - you may be swiming in Dracaenias. Barbara Lloyd
thanks for the tips folks,my new cutting seems to be coming along fine.I didnt chop the leaves back on the new cutting but it looks healthy so it must have struck new roots by now.
