HI My name: Phil We have several dahlia's in our yard but only one has a double flower on one stem, It appears as if the second bloom is coming directly frow the rear of the existing flower, I do not know the variety of the dahlia but it has 8 petals, purple and white in colour with bright yellow centre. Is this unusual, would it be usefull for breeders. Phil Long
It sounds like you are describing a faciation. It's like conjoined twins in humans or animals. Check out the web site below and see if that's it. http://faculty.ucc.edu/biology-ombrello/pow/fasciated_plants.htm
Thanks for the info. I believe you are correct, your descrition of siamese twins is spot on. Is it worth preserving? Would a professional grower have any use for this type of mutant? Phil
I have no idea. Maybe someone else will have some idea's as to preserve or not and how to. Welcome! ;))
