This plant has been a real head scratcher for us...a picture of a leaf is enclosed...the leaf repels water so much that I am tempted to make a golf rain suit out of it..Grows as a perenial bush and currently is about 4 foot tall (this year). Would appreciate anyones knowledge of this interesting plant. We received a one leaf start last year but no one knew what it is...go figure..
    Thanks!

It appearts to be a Gunnera. If it is, it has spiked stems and will develop a seed cone about the size of a small christmas tree. It will likely die to the ground after a frost and the leafs should be packed over the core for winter protection. It grows bigger and wider each year by sending a small log across the surface. It is a heavy water user and will spread about 10' wide be year 3-4. It is basically impervious to pests and fungi.
