This plant has been a real head scratcher for us...a picture of a leaf is enclosed...the leaf repels water so much that I am tempted to make a golf rain suit out of it..Grows as a perenial bush and currently is about 4 foot tall (this year). Would appreciate anyones knowledge of this interesting plant. We received a one leaf start last year but no one knew what it is...go figure.. Thanks!
lady's mantle?? but probably not at 4ft tall... but the water rolls around on the leaves... what do the flowers look like? we'll see what others think :) ~erin
It appearts to be a Gunnera. If it is, it has spiked stems and will develop a seed cone about the size of a small christmas tree. It will likely die to the ground after a frost and the leafs should be packed over the core for winter protection. It grows bigger and wider each year by sending a small log across the surface. It is a heavy water user and will spread about 10' wide be year 3-4. It is basically impervious to pests and fungi.
Thanks for your assistance...Yes the plant matches the description Plume Poppy (macleaya cordata) from other resources...mystery solved...next question. has anyone found the yellowish juice favorable for bug bites? This plant is invasive yet very fascinating to say the least...Wish I could market it's rain repellent tendencies...never seen anything quite like this...anyway, thanks folks for your help!
