I have a spot in my back yard that has what I would describe as bright open shade. It is shielded by larger trees most of the day , but gets 4 to 5 hours of sun from a western exposure. The zone is 8, the soil is well drained. I appreciate this would be typically too much for most Camillia's that do better as a understory plant. I was told this variety would do well under the condidtions I described. Does anyone have experience with this Camellia to know how well it mught do under these conditions.

I doubt you will have a problem with the exposure all other factors being suitable. The main problem with buying camellias here is that the majority of specimens offered by retail outlets come from suppliers that put out terribly rootbound stock. Inspect carefully when shopping, although when you take hold of the tops of prospective purchases and they flop around as though about to fall over* or there are tightly knotted roots in full view, on top of the potting medium not much investigation is required.

*Often these would, in fact fall over if not staked - staking of a finished specimen that is not a vining plant or being trained into a tree shape being another red flag

Hi, I have a 'Yuletide'. It is east to grow the only downside is that it is very slow growing. It wouldn't be my first choice to fill in a space- you'll be waiting a while
    ciao bertoli
