    It's a cool pic (actually more than cool - it's awesome), but I do have to stick with plants for BPotD - if an insect is shown, it needs to have the plants it hangs out with.

    Now why did I look at that just before bed time? Fantastic shot. I can't imagine what it would be like to come across one of those while weeding the garden!

    The monster is 2.5 inches, or 65 mm.

    It makes a loud noise when threadened.

    I see it lives in north USA also.

    Thats close to Canada.

    Glad to read that it won't bite me - would have most likely been a squashed beetle if I had ever come across it, prior to reading this thread.
