I've read that these plants are to be divided in the spring...have any of you had success doing this in the fall?

When these are growing well, as I guess they are if you are considering dividing, I doubt they would notice being divided at any time. More like you'd have to divide in self-defense. Maybe your climate would be a factor and you would need to give them some time to resettle before frost.

Thank-you Karin. Frost is right around the corner here, so I guess I'll leave them till spring then.

I have had great success when dividing them in the spring.

Tried two years ago in the fall with one, and lost both plants.
It was particularly cold for the coast that winter so to me that is the obvious answer. Wait til spring to be sure.

Spring is the best time. I lost two a couple of years ago by dividing them in the fall. We had a cold winter (for the Coast) that year.

The next year I did them in the spring and they had a terrific show of pokers.
