I am wondering how widespread, are Butterwort plants?. ( Pinguicula vulgaris ). They are rarely seen except in the mountains occasionally. And very little information seems to be out there in the local websites. Please post a reply stating where you have found them. They should almost be CDC listed, locally.
Brent Hine, UBC's Alpine Garden curator noted that they can be found in Bridal Veil Falls Prov. Park. I've yet to see them.
Not in your poll list, but it also occurs fairly widely in the British Isles. I presume it is a circumboreal species, though one of my books lists it as northwest Europe only (presumably taking a splitter's view on the circumscription of species in the genus)
Pinguicula vulgaris is indigenous to North America as well as to Northern Europe. To the best of my knowledge, P. vulgaris can allegedly be found growing in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick and I suspect it may have a greater native range than that. P. vulgaris definitely occurs in the following States- Northern Michigan (Upper Peninsula), Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
Forgot to mention that the photo was very nice. If you don't mind my asking, where was that photo taken?
Margaret - there is an attachment with the first post. Are you able to see it, or is there a technical problem that I need to try and figure out...?
There are a few locales on Vancouver Island and also around Vancouver's lower mainland. I will be visiting Vancouver this weekend, and hope to make a trip to one of the locales (up near an alpine meadow) to see if the P. vulgaris are still there.
