Hello, I am trying to find informations on the geographical distribution of Aristolochia, especially in Europe. I just found a software called EuroVegMap emphasizing the areas where the plant can grow but I am looking for other sources like the Atlas Florae Europaeae Volume 3. Has anyone access to this book ? If yes, could you tell me if there is a map of the Aristolochia distribution in the book ? If you have other ideas on where I would find more informations on the plant distribution, feel free ! Many thanks, Best regards, Marie
Kew's Plants of the World Online has a map showing countries/regions where it occurs, but note that it does not occur throughout each region for which it is mapped.
Additional note: BSBI (scroll down to 'Biogeography') states that the true native range may be confined to SE Europe to Turkey and the Caucasus, but that extensive mediaeval cultivation and subsequent naturalisation makes it impossible to know the original native range.
Hi Michael, many thanks for all these interesting links ! The UK map from BSBI is very interesting for me. I was a bit surprised by the altitude diagram, as I thought the plant only grew at very low altitudes. I will also try to find this book they mention : Atlas of north European vascular plants north of the Tropic of Cancer.
