Hi there, an odd question I have, with no picture to attach....
I've just returned from Disney Florida, where we stayed at "Port Orleans" resort.
Outside the main eating area, there are 2 or 3 medium sized trees.
These trees had seeds all over them....and somehow they made it into my pocket, and back home into soil, where they have all sprouted.
I am thinking they were "Chinese Elm", but just want to confirm. Any plant lovers who have been there, would have saw the trees...
Also, some "live oak" acorns made it into my pockets, and they also sprouted already. It was a good vacation!

I guess my question is....does Disney Florida have Chinese elms, or Zelkova, or elms in general. The adult leave was probably an inch or so long.
Thanks for any replies, if any!
    K

I was hoping for photos of the original trees and/or their seeds! Unfortunately, elm and zelkova seedlings aren't distinguishable at this age (the lop-sided base of elm leaves only appears when they are a bit older).

Were the seeds like small lumpy nuts several mm across, or flat seeds with a nearly circular wing round them? Former = a zelkova, latter = an elm.

I am thinking the seeds were flat....so I will go with it is Chinese Elm for now! Just with a nicely serrated edge. I don't think I took a picture of the actual tree.
I will grow them out, and see what they turn into.
    Thanks again for your reply!

Word of caution: elms are extremely weedy. They grow fast and very difficult to eradicate once they developed into a tree. I have one in my backyard: zillions of seeds and sprouts all over.

There's more to elms than Siberian elm, the latter almost certainly what you are talking about in Utah. Chinese elm is a different species, probably the only one likely to be seen where the seeds were collected.

To some extent, Chinese elm may also be a problem. Just google "chinese elm weed".

Yes, I am familiar with complaints about Chinese elm. Note that it is often the case that Siberian elm is what is being referred to as "Chinese elm", in addition to the fact that Chinese elm sometimes reseeds.
