Just wondering what might be okay to plant into a terrarium to go with my box turtle. i have a venus fly trap thats i want to plant in but i dont know if it will be bad for my turtle
I am not sure if you want to have a turtle contained with a Dionaea muscipula plant for other reasons. At least with dogs, cats, and humans, the D. muscipula shows low toxicity. In fact, there is some claim that extracts from this plant can boost immunity and possibly aide in the treatment of some cancers. Is it harmful to reptiles if eaten, is a question I cannot answer. A turtle is going to have no respect for any small plant in its environment. D. muscipula are generally small plants and can easily be crushed by a much larger turtle. The other consideration is that these plants do best in a humid environment, whereas the turtle may do better in a drier environment. One option, depending upon how much room you have, would be to separate the plants from the reptiles by glass. You can do this either with creating a glass wall within your enclosure, or by having a second terrarium set up next to the reptile enclosure, creating a window-box effect.
