Here is my planting dilema! I have yellow clay soil, with a ton of riverbed rock mixed in, so I have looked at good clay plants, mostly cultivars of Spirea! I have planted a 17' Crepe Myrtle on one side of the bed, with 3 gold flame spirea. In this bed, it is a sloped bed, with a short retaining wall on the low side. The bed is about 25' x 15' in and oval shape. The other problem I have with my area, is an overabundance of dear. So to help this problem, I have added 2 oleanders to the bed, on the opposite end of the bed. This seems to be slowing the dear a bit(they keep nibbling off the tips of the spirea). What shorter, complimentary shrubs or flowers, that are not as appealing to dear, and can flourish in hardpack conditions, would you suggest. We are under very wet conditions, and in (Hardiness zone 6a).

    Thanks
    Will
