    Hi,

My Dieffenbachia was top heavy, always sagging. I decided to repot it. I am no expert but have had this plant for 7 years. It grew to over 6.5feet. As I was moving it, the top completely snapped off... only the stock remains and is leaf-less. I re-potted the stock, is this plant going to survive? I have attached a pic of the plant. The leaf you see in the pic is the top which i put in the spoil, hoping it might sprout roots.

    Thanks for any input.

PS I think its a Dieffenbachia, as I googled pictures of it and thats what it looks like.

Yup, it's a Dieffenbachia - looks like one of the D. seguine cultivars. I hope you didn't throw away the top as well? You can repot any section of Dieffenbachia that snaps off, and it will root and establish itself as a new plant - it's one of the natural methods of propagation and I see it all the time in the forests here.

It will most definitely survive - they're tough puppies.
