About one year ago, the leading tip of an acer showed about 8" of what looked to be white dead wood. It has now creeped down another 10-12" toward the trunk. I've attached a photo taken where the die back meets the healthy wood and one higher up where it is mostly deadish (and yet, there are healthy looking branches off this dead wood). Anybody know what this might be and what I should do about it? Much thanks in advance. / Roy

Much thanks for the prompt reply. I see now that there's been a lot of discussion on the topic. It's such a dear little tree that I hate to whack it back. But better now then later. / Roy
