I'm looking to aquire a Dicksonia antartica and wonder if anyone has a source to recommend? On SSI, the Plant Farm has one left and they are getting me a price, but I fear it will be too much as it is very big. I remember seeing several this spring at the garden center at the North end of the island (SSI), not too far from Joe's, but I have forgotten the name of the place.
I am not crazy about the idea of mail ordering one...any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

Fraser thimble farm on Salt Spring Island had DA's plus other varieties of tree ferns.
Thats also the place near Joes. You can visit them, you don't need to mail order if you don't want to.

If Saltspring is convenient for you, and of course it is via Vesuvius, then you are on your way, but don't you also have Island Specialty nursery in Chemainus, or have they gone totally wholesale? Or if you're downisland, try Brentwood Bay Nurseries. This plant has become so ubiquitious I'd be surprised not to find it, and usually 1 gal, in any place that carries ferns.

Island Specialty is one of my favorites but unfortunately, they don't carry tree ferns (or palms). I think that I am needing to cruise over to SSI for a day trip!

FYI for anyone, Mary Dawn at Island Specialty has an excellent supply of numerous eucalyptus as well as other hard to get plants.

There where even some at The Home Depot in Nanaimo. You can check on your way through next Thursday, providing you'll have space in the truck. hahaha!

    Cheers, LPN.

The trunk was about a foot tall. Big fronds, made it look bigger and more impressive. It's at the begininng of an the third asile when you go to the covered outside garden area.

Good luck with it, I have a little one, it's lovely. It put off a lot of growth this year.

Carol, is yours in the ground? If so, how did you overwinter?

I have mine up fairly close to the house, so it gets the protection from it. ( probably all the heat escaping from my aging home!)
