Click on Alerts -> Alert Preferences to alter them. In order to clear them, I just click on the Alerts button.
If I click on the Alerts button, it removes the red circle notifier that an alert is pending. I suppose that doesn't delete them, though -- I can still click through to http://forums.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/account/alerts and see the most recent 8.
Doesn't seem to be possible on an individual basis. Looks like the setting would have to be adjusted for everyone on the forums: Deleting old alerts? Option to delete notifications in profile
“Alerts only show on a user's profile based on Days to Retain Viewed Alerts in admin.php?options/list/alerts”. So, what are your settings? And do I have to “read” my alerts to hope to have them removed after some time, otherwise they will stay there forever?
Sundrop, what makes you want to delete them? If just looking at the alert dropdown removes the alert indicator, what is the issue with old stuff hanging around? New ones are at the top, so those are the ones you see. Unrelated issue that seems very related to me: they of course didn't put new alerts at the bottom, they put them at the top; why can't they understand that it makes sense in at least some instances for new postings to be at the top?
Thanks Daniel. It has something to do with my personality, I just hate old, unneeded stuff hanging around, regardless what it is. Messages in my account alerting me that someone posted something in the thread I participate were redundant, since I receive email alerts. Ok, I changed my preferences, will see if it works, hopefully will not receive duplicate alerts anymore. Meanwhile wanted to know how to get rid of those that were already there :)
