Is there a source where I can find if a particular plant or shrub is deer resistant? I specifically want to know if Fothergilla and Clethra are resistant to black tail deer. Sokkappa
Such lists are, in my opinion, of limited value, since if hungry enough or curious enough deer will sample virtually anything. They do seem to have their favorites & not so favorites however, and you can find many such lists posted on the internet & in books. My one specific recommendation in this regard is to stay away from plants in the rose family.
Hi Sokkappa, Great advice from Gordo. I have some lists and one even lists their favorites in descending order. You can check to see of your choices are the same as yours. http://www.wvu.edu/~agexten/hortcult/treeshru/resistan.htm http://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/html/ec/ec1440/ http://www.lazyssfarm.com/Plants/Deer_Resistant_Plants.htm http://www.lotf.com/misc/deer/deer.htm I've heard that these deer fences work quite well. http://www.bennersgardens.com/ Newt
