Hi, I'm new here, but have some new plants to put in the ground..

Ninebark...??? might it be deer proof??
and what about the smoke bush????

I have just put up some more fencing, so will be able to have more plants,
but these are perimeter plantings (chain link fence)..and I'd like to know
for almost sure....since I have HERDS of deer through multi times per day..

    Thanks..
    Sherry on Vancouver Island..

Hi Sherry, I'm not to sure about the specifics of those plants but there are many on here who do and hopefully they will respond. I do know that deer will stay away from plants with a high silica content...i don't beleive these plants apply. However, deer will not jump a fence that is angled inwards towards your property due to their depth perception. Hope this helps? Deb:)

According to some posts on the web Ninebark is not deerproof. One shrub that is deerproof for sure is Buxus (box) also heathers and ericas. Why not think about some native BC plants like Arbutus or manzanita - beautiful but a bit "messy" I'll agree. Ocean spray is very nice (Holidiscus discolor)/ Also snowberry..and of course, probably the most lovely and easy care combined various Mahonias (oregon grape)..some of the tall ones are really showy. A really great book to check out is "Gardening with Native Plants of the Pacific Northwest" by Kruckeberg.
