I'm looking for a deep cupped hosta and there are so many! Not particular about size, colour or growth rate. Any personal favorites? I can only give it 2 hours sunlight max. as it has to be protected from hail. Thanks in advance. Les
Indeed, Abiqua Drinking Gourd pretty much rates as THE cupped Hosta. It does get to be a fair size though, allow for a mature size of around 60" x 20". It will be slow to mature, being a Tokudama cross. If this size is too large you might want to look for Monashee Blue Cup, a Canadian introduction from John Montgomery of Vernon. I picked it up last year and the tag with it gave a mature size of 18" x 12", but being an immature plant I'm dealing with I must admit I did not as yet see a great deal of the cupping and I would expect it to be another couple of years anyway before I'll get a good feel for whether or not it lives up to its billing a smaller ADG.
The Canadian introduction gets my vote. I have emailed Ambrosia Gardens (formerly Monashee Perennials) and hopefully they ship. Thanks Ron B. and Pieter.
