I drowned my fireglow so I must return and pick a different cultivar . I have a well drained area between some porcupine grass 6' and a 4' red dragon with arborvitae hedge behind . Sun up till noon full sun and then 5 till sunset full sun . Big would be ok with me . Good open form , not twiggy . I would also like interesting color changes , not constant bloodgood . I have to pick from oshio beni , suminagashi , burgundy lace . I am in 5a . I have been checking pics online as well as forums here but there is nothing like advice from someone who has them . thanks .
Yip There are just far too many Japanese maples to have one of each :) Might get one though, although it is not on my top ten list yet. I usually buy what is available from the local Garden Centres, as in that way I get to evaluate the plant before I buy Oshio Beni has yet to be made available to me in this way When I buy from Holland or France I am sometimes disappointed with what is delivered
I see . I have acquired ukigumo after seeing your pic and am overjoyed with it. Gorgeous this spring . I am already trying an airlayer .I do believe suminagashi is a larger plant and a more open shape which is the form I am looking for . I would like to have a sitting area beneath it . Be it on the ground . Sam , you are an inspiration .
