Can someone id this tree for me please? I have tried to utilize tree id keys, but I am not having much luck. I must be doing one step wrong or something. Thanks.

thanks weedbender for the response. i did look at back tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica) and now I am not sure. It seems that on the tupelo the leaf pattern is more of a whorled pattern and on my tree the internode spacing is almost exactly one inch, very evenly spaced. This tree is one of a kind out of 575 inventoried in our park. It is amongst many, many post oaks, green/white ash, and hickory, if that helps any. It is actually growing very snuggly between a hackberry and native pecan. You can't tell from the pics, but there is fine fuzz or hairs along the stem, petiole, and under side of leaves. Could it be a different tupelo? thanks. Not a persimmon, we have those as well. The bark is very similar, but the leaves are distinctly different.

okay, I went to look again. You are right Ron B. it is persimmon. I wonder if the leaves are larger and a little different that the others we have since it is very heavily shaded? Wow, I feel really silly now, I should have known that. Thanks again everyone.

Same bark and terminal buds. This specimen is a nice green, maybe the others aren't as healthy.

It does look different enough upon first impression that I totaly dismissed it as an option. The leaves are quiet a bit larger and more dull than the others we have. It is actually prettier than the others. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I wouldn't have even thought about persimmon again until you suggested it.
