Hi All, I have death caps in my raised veggie bed. I carefully remove them using plastic bags as gloves, and I am very vigilant to not ingest any.

But they touch my veggies before I notice them and eliminate them, and now I am terrified to eat _anything_ out of the veggie bed! I already ditched all the leafy vegetables that were anywhere near the mushrooms, but now I have squashes ripening in there. One mushroom touched the squash and left white residue which was then washed off by rain.

I am sure I am being overly paranoid. If I collect that squash a month from now and scrub it with soap, will it be safe to eat??

    Many thanks!

First, how certain are you that the mushrooms are Death Caps.? What tree or trees are close to the veggie bed? Death Caps are always associated with live trees; if there are no trees nearby, your mushrooms are unlikely to be Death Caps. Some photos of the situation and the mushrooms would be helpful.

If they really are Death Caps, touching them is not particularly harmful. Just wash your hands afterwards. The same applies to veggies, washing them should prevent any harm, especially for squash, since you don't eat the skin.

Hi @TotalAlina - Would it be possible to add a photo of one of the mushrooms?
