I am confused about deadheading geraniums. I've been searching Google and have been reading two conflicting suggestions. One suggests removing just the spent blooms while the other suggests removing the entire stem.

Mine is a double zonal geranium so if I remove the entire stem, I'll also be removing the new blooms underneath the top blooms. Should I just handpick the old blooms on the top? I hope I've explained this okay. Thanks for your help.

Double or single, these bloom in clusters on a long flower stem. I usually remove the whole flower stem after all (or almost all) the flowers on the stem fade. Not the plant stem, just the flower stalk.

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for your help. Okay, I will remove the entire flower stem.
