I just helped my husband remove two dead trees (non-native evergreens, not sure what) from a sunny corner of our front yard. I'm looking out the window towards the greenbelt beside the Coquitlam River, and see a number of cedars that are almost entirely brown. They're surrounded by deciduous trees (mostly maple and poplar) that are green and healthy-looking.

I've only lived here for two months, so I don't know what these trees looked like a year ago. Is it possible their roots are shallow enough that they dried out last summer during the heat? Has anyone else noticed dead cedars this spring?
