Hi I've been trying to find information about a tree growing near a creek. Some of my leaf description information may be wrong: Shape Acuminate (tapering to long point) Venation Parallel Disposition Odd Pinnate Margin Undulate Black berry red stem Attaching an image of the tree... Thanks for any help. GP
Thank you for that help. Apparently someone about thirty years ago came to this property to harvest those berries. "Dogwood pie" doesn't ring a bell, I wonder if it's true she was harvesting from these trees... Thanks again GP
If this plant is nearby, you can make the Cornus leaf test, which was discussed several times at this forum. Carefully torn apart halves of the cornus leaf reveal tiny elastic threads of polymerized sap: http://www.naturessecretlarder.co.uk/wild-food-useful-plants/dogwood-cornus-sanguinea.htm http://courses.washington.edu/bot113/family_pages/Cornaceae/cornaceae.html
