    I've had an daphne in a large clay pot for about 2-3 years. Transplanted to a larger pot 1 1/2 years ago. This summer it started getting a mildew or velvety in areas of the joints and some leafing areas. I've never pruned it. Started from a cutting, it's about 2 ft. by 2 ft. Blooms beautiful. Purple/pink flower. It's on a covered 8x8 porch open on the south and west side. Live in Northern Calif.

    Oh, yes. I do have a question. What is the white velvety stuff on my daphne. How do I get rid of it. It's starting to lose leaves and look leggy. am I going to lose it? How can I save my daphne?

    could be a fungus of sorts;
    to eradicate you could try wiping off the affected area with a damp cloth, trim the plant lightly to increase air flow and always avoid overhead watering. It may be mealy bugs if you are in the mid to southern California climate, if it is try a soap based product to eliminate them. For better clarification try posting some pictures for us to see or visit your local garden center with a sample.
