i have two odoras, one in a pot and one in the ground, which i planted this summer. do i need to wrap them or mulch this winter?
Potted one should be protected from freezing of the roots. One in ground should not require any special attention if you are in a suitable climate. Most plants should be kept mulched at all times.
We're in zone 7a and have a 25 year old Daphne odora that came from the Ortan Plantation in Brunswick County, NC. It has bloomed reliably for the last 20 years and never shown any winter damage. It is located at the north-western corner of the house and gets very little winter sun. Hopefully this will help you decide what to do.
thank you for your encouragement...although i'm a bit cautious about expecting the same kind of success, as i have visited your neck of the woods often, at all times of the year including winter---my husband was born and raised in durham---and i know that most of the time, our winters are wetter and cooler. (but i was in durham during a week long ice storm about a decade ago and that was nasty) in any case, i'll hope for the best!!
