Recently the bark on a cedar and fir tree were damaged by an excavator.
    Will the bark regrow ?
Is there a product that may be applied to protect it from insect infestation or rot?
The trees are healthy and approximatley 100 feet in height.

If there is a such a product where may I obtain it.

    Thanks
    Andre

the bark will not regrow, trees do not heal the way other organisms may. they will attempt to "seal" the damage off in a process referred to as CODIT. there arent any products (that I know of anyways) that will speed the process. you may want to get someone out to do what is called a bark trace (remove the dead and damaged bark) which can help the tree begin its CODIT process. Generally a bark damage will not proliferate insect damage but it may induce the breaking down of the wood and tree tissues which may become a haven for insects sucha as borers. My question to you is that if there was damage to the trunk from an excavator, what other damage may have been done to the roots (possibly much more serious than the trunk damage) ?
