My huge (and prized!) dahlia tubers have sprouted early in the container that I was storing them in for the winter. Unfortunately, inadequate storage this year was my undoing. I realized that there was a problem when the lid "popped" off the garbage can, revealing white tendrils amidst the peat.

What to do from here? Someone suggested that planting them in pots indoors is the only option at this point, given the stage that they are at. Is this is the best plan? If so, how much water? How deep? I am assuming that I should preserve the white shoots at all costs.

I would welcome other thoughts/ideas or confirmation of the existing plan. I am in Hazelton in northern BC so still have a number of months until things are going out into the garden.
