I have planted a Dactylorhiza maculata in my graden this year. So far (July 1st in New England), it has only 2 leaves on it and has been this way for over 2 months.
Should it grow bigger this year or is that it until next year?
    Thanks.

Our Dactylorhiza maculata are growing wild in our garden, they tend to start coming through the soil very early in the year, and then flower in May/June. The leaves then just sit there till it gets cold when they die back, to reappear next year.Be patient it will take them time for them to settle in.
They like acid soil, deep rich and moist. Ours grow in semi shade and sometimes appear in the borders. What ever you do never feed them.
This article has good advice, and may help.
