First time posting, but I have a cedar that appears to be dying from the inside out. It is completely brown from the trunk half way out, although the ends seem healthy. Any suggestions?

Pictures show a little more orange than in reality. Thanks for your help.

Chamaecyparis obtusa cultivar, this is a moist climate tree and may have been affected by drought or unseasonable warmth if that has been occurring there in recent years. Dig in the ground near it to check soil moisture.

Ditto to Chamaecyparis obtusa, a cypress not a cedar. Drought is the most likely explanation; it should recover slowly if normal rainfall returns, though may be rather sparse and open-crowned for a few years until new foliage develops. The dead brown foliage can be raked out to improve the appearance.
