Last summer we had a severe infestation of leaf hoppers on our Virginia Creeper - we lost most of the leaves in late July. We went to our local nursery and they said if cygon was available that would be best. What we got was liquid malethion to spray, which worked on the 8' high patch on our back fence, but not on the two bunches that are 30' up our two Pondorosa pine trees. Since cygon is not available in Canada, is there something else we can do beside suffering a rain of malethion as we spray the two bunches of Virginia Creeper on the trees?
If you are looking for an alternative systemic insecticide to Cygon (dimethoate) then you are out of luck in this country at the retail level. There may be products a licensed professional can apply for you that may be appropriate.
