Remove the spent bloom, but do not cut the amaryllis leaves back. Put it in a sunny spot and allow the leaves to grow on. You can move the pots to a sunny spot outdoors when the weather warms. Water and fertilize the plants regularly until they start to yellow in the fall. Trim away spent leaves and put the plants in a cool dark area, plants should not be watered. Continue to trim away withered leaves. Allow them to rest until you are ready to revive them (around two months before you want blooms). Water the pots thoroughly and place in a warm spot. Keep water to a minimum until growth appears.

If you don't allow healthy green leaves the plant can't store enough energy to make the beautiful blooms.

    Happy gardening,
