I would like to cut my Doronicums (leopards bane) to the ground now as the flowers are spent and the foliage is really quite messy looking. Will they come back with tidy new foliage like Geraniums do when you cut them back to the ground after they have finished flowering?
Hello Penny, Doronicum goes dormant after blooming. You can cut back the flower stalks once the flowers are spent and the foliage after it has turned yellow without doing any damage to the plant. The green foliage is photosynethsizing and providing food to the tuberous root system which gives the plant enough energy to leaf out and bloom the following year. Raakel
