I have a madagascar dragon tree that is close to 3 feet tall. It is getting new growth at the top, but the lower leaves are turning yellow and falling off. I'm wondering if I can cut this plant back to the base to encourage new plants to grow? If I do this, is now a good time or should I wait unitl spring when the days are getting longer (more sunlight) Thank you for any help.
I would suggest "Air Layering" the top off of the plant so that you get two plants out of the deal.... well, that and if the bottom doesn't resprout you don't loose anything. BTW, the bottom leave always die off as the tree grows up, just pluck them off once they come free easily. As for what season, I don't know but I would think that doing it at the beginning of the growing season would be better than at the end of the season. M.
