Can i cut roots off my maple tree approx 20 years old. When we moved our shed more towards the back of our property. There was already an existing young maple tree there. Over time i believe the pressure of the shed has not allowed the roots to go under and instead have come out of the ground by a few inches in a few areas. The root is at least an inch thick. We need a new shed and maybe putting it differently . But the roots look awful . Can we cut the ones off that are sticking out of the soil? The tree is a slow grower and planted in a moist location and sometimes soggy soil. Overall the tree is doing great! Don't know what type of maple except to say it turns yellow in the fall, and has large deep green leaves.
