I was wondering if anyone could explain what is happening to this Ginkgo leaf. I've had it in this vase since the end of July. It looks the same now as it did then, except for that unusual growth, which is quite hard, on the end of the stem. I change the water every couple of weeks. The vase is in a north facing window by the kitchen sink.

A callus of some sort. Whether it'll ever put roots out and grow, I'm not sure.

The ginkgo leaf has finally succumbed. The callus didn't get very much bigger than the photo, and there were no roots. The leaf started to turn yellow at the end of January and now is brittle, so today it goes in the compost. It was an interesting leaf to marvel at for the past six and a half months.
