great looking plants and nice first harvest! Looks like there's a lot more on the way too! I planted cukes in my first garden this year but didn't realize how much they spread. I tihnk I'm gonna try making a teepee out of bamboo. But I like your "directing" with the fencing. looks like it works well.

Durgan your cucumber plants look really great. How many plants do you have to get that kind of harvest?
Seven plant in total, three in one hill and two in the other two hills. The hills are evenly spaced over the eight foot trellis.
I wasn't happy with the production from my Home Pickling variety last year and I am sure that I had at least 7 plants. I didn't bother planting them this year. I will have to try Cross Country next year.

Downy mildew has made its appearance, facilitated by wet weather, keeping the foliage damp. The cucumbers that hang from the trellis are completely green, and the ones lying on the ground have a yellow underside. This is a case for using a trellis if appearance is an issue.
