A few months ago I found a pink and green earthstar sold as an air plant. It was severely underpotted and looked like it had never seen water. I tossed it into a bottle garden and it's happy enough aside from the fact that it had already followered and is in the slow process of dying off. One of its pups the other day fell off and I potted it up and placed it in a sealed plastic bag. Part of the one leaf is starting to rot though so I took it out and placed the pot on a tray of moist pebbles instead. My question is this... is this way of growing earth stars ok? I live in a very dry area (northern alberta) and I'm afraid that even with misting and sitting on damp pebbles the humidity won't be high enough. http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/548/p1010361aa0.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9943/p1010363pi1.jpg Any help is appreciated, Thanks -Ryan
Maybe it's *too* much moisture, and not enough air circulation? My earth stars seem to be thriving under regular-type conditions as far as humidity goes.
Hi Cookie, thanks for the reply. I think you might be right about the mother plant. I'm going to try to keep the lid off completely and see if that helps. Perhaps I should repot? Thank you! -Ryan
