A local man in Victoria, BC, refers to a tree in his backyard as a "Crown Fir." Does anyone know if this is local usage for Douglas Fir? If not, is this a name used for some other species of fir (or pine)? All I know is that he speaks of one Crown Fir and one Balsam Fir in his yard. I understand what Balsam Fir is, but googling turns up nothing for Crown Fir. Any help would be appreciated.

I can find no reference to the use of "crown fir" as a common or vernacular name for any species.

Perhaps a mistake for grand fir.
