Cross pollination ?

Hi,

I just wondered whether anyone had tried this on the forum at all. I currently have 5 cultivars of maple in flower and as an experiment I was going to wander round with a paintbrush transferring the pollen amongst them and see what happens. It is not a serious experiment more so to see if I can get some varied seedlings. Any thoughts ?

What kind of maple each is would be important to this question.

 

They are Japanese Maples
Ariadne
Sango Kaku
Bloodgood
Viridis
Atropurpeum

I have never done it but, why bother when they hybridize all by themselves?

I know that similar method is in use for the Rose, but is easy the revert ,or hybrids no longer in coltivations ...ale
